The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand... They are more than 600 000 today to live in New Zealand and they represent an important part of the culture and the history of this country. The Maor'is culture is mainly a old tribal way of life , who continues to be passed from generation to generation.
The Maori were big warriors, today all that remains are dances and songs witch explain the rituals of their descendants during their spectacles.
The moko (tattoo):
The most amazing practice of the Maori is their incredible tattoos which cover most of the head in men and women . According to their mythology, the tattoo has for origin a loving link between a young man and a young princess of the "hells".These tattoos are called "Moko". They were made by filling profound notches made on the skin. All the high-ranking Maori (the personalities important or the warriors) were tattooed. the man always seemed to be more tattooed than the women. And those who were not tatooed were considered to be a persons without any social status.
The haka ( tradicional dance of the maoris):
The haka is a very tradicional dance from of the Maori. It is a posture dance performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniments.The use of a haka by the All Blacks rugby union team has made the dance very popular in the world. The most well know haka is "Ka Mate".
