An interview of Tana Umaga from New Zealand

Tana_Umaga

"It has been some time now since i was litle that i always wanted to play for the all blacks because in my familly we allready had two rugby players. It been sometimes now since i have become a professionel rugby player, then someone asked me if i wanted to become an allblack rugby player in new zealand. Since my arrival in new zealand the people received really well and i was really taken by thier generosity and happy to be accepted by the all blacks and everybody else. I have missed my home town because it is the place where i have learned to play rugby also where my friends and familly lives but i think i could make new friends in new zealand. Since my arrivals everyone has really done their best to make me fell at home and i really appreciate that because it was a worry for me and since then i fell more and more becoming one of them and for that i would like to thank them because it has helped me to settle down."

Maori's culture

maori_image

The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand... They are more than 600 000 today to live in New Zealand and they represent an important part of the culture and the history of this country. The Maor'is culture is mainly a  old tribal way of life , who continues to  be passed from generation to generation.

The Maori were big warriors, today all that remains are dances and songs witch explain the rituals of their descendants during their spectacles.

The moko (tattoo):oihkjh

The  most amazing practice of the Maori is their incredible tattoos which cover most of the head in men and women . According to their mythology, the tattoo has for origin a loving link between a young man and a young princess of the "hells".These tattoos are called "Moko". They were made by filling profound notches made on the skin. All the high-ranking Maori (the personalities important or the warriors) were tattooed.  the man always seemed to be more tattooed than the women. And those who were not tatooed were considered to be a persons without any social status.

The haka ( tradicional dance of the maoris):HAKA

The haka is a very tradicional dance from of the Maori. It is a posture dance performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniments. The use of a haka by the All Blacks rugby union team has made the dance very popular in the world. The most well know haka is "Ka Mate".

look this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdMCAV6Yd0Y&playnext=1&list=PL9721946ADD2EA7C0&index=2

The Maori and english version of the haka:

Ringa Pakia / Slap the hands against the thighs

Uma tiraha / Puff out the chest

Turi whatia / bend the knees

Hope whai ake / Let the hips follow

Waewae takahia / Stamp the feet as hard as you can

Ka mate! Ka mate! / It is death! It is deach!

Ka ora! Ka ora! / It is life! It is life

Tenei te ta ngata puhuru hura / This is the hairy person

Nana nei i tiki mai / Who caused the sun to shine

Whakawhiti te ra / Keep abreast! Keep abreast!

A upane ka upane / The rank! Hold fast!

A upane kaupane whiti te ra! / Into the sun that shines

Hi!
